Tractebel Engineering is actively participating to the development of the Mediterranean Solar Plan.
The Mediterranean Solar Plan (MSP) is a political initiative which aims at developing 20 GW of new renewable energy in the South and East Mediterranean countries by 2020, out of which some 5GW would be exported to the EU countries.
MEDGRID is an industrial initiative (supported and financed by 20 international utilities and manufacturers) within the frame of the MSP to design, the trans-Mediterranean transmission system required for the export of these 5 GW, and to study its technical, economical and institutional feasibility.
Tractebel Engineering has been recently selected by the working group “Economic Analysis” of MEDGRID for the definition of the methodologies and scenarios to be applied to determine the economic viability of the future HV interconnections crossing the Mediterranean sea aiming at exporting electricity produced from renewable energy towards Europe.
Furthermore, Tractebel Engineering is currently performing, in partnership with Observatoire Méditerranéen de l’Energie (OME), a study to support the development of Renewable Energy Sources in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries and to provide policy makers with an investment decision making tool that considers economic, financial and societal aspects.
These two projects awarded to Tractebel Engineering in the scope of the Mediterranean Solar Plan confirm Tractebel Engineering as a recognized actor for the integration of renewable projects in power systems of the Mediterranean region.
